In 1987 Javed Khan, a British-Pakistani teenager, is growing up in the town of Luton, England. He experiences intolerance in his hometown and, at the same time, suffers from the beliefs of his autocratic, traditional father, who doesn’t understand Javed’s aspirations.

When a newfound friend introduces him to the music of Bruce Springsteen, Javed, a writer himself, identifies with the singer's powerful lyrics about growing up and the struggles of the working class. Thanks to “The Boss” he becomes more comfortable with who he is, finds his own voice and is able to follow his dreams.
